Wow! When I am working in the studio the time just flies! At the beginning of March 2025 I started working on a brand new music album. It began with 3 short instrumental tunes. They were only about a minute-long music sketches really. And then more ideas started popping into my head and before I knew I had 17 tracks to mix. At the end only 15 tracks made it onto the album scheduled for release on 22nd of September 2026. The remaining two tracks are going to be released later this year.
Main hero of the album
When it comes to instrumentation and the main featured instrument on the album, people who witnessed my career on stage in past 15 years will understand it is gonna be a recorder. Off course it is! I am a huge advocate for recorders and I do know they are the most under rated music instruments world-wide. I know I have to throw in a lot of recorders! They can sound amazing and not many people realise that. There is no way around it!! I guess in the future that might truly become my authentic signature style. Well lets see how that turns up?
Going dark ambient and cinematic
Even though my music has always had more positive, chilled vibe and upbeat tempos I suddenly felt like I really needed to go into that slightly darker corner of music making and try something new, spooky and maybe even macabre. When it comes to inspiration I don’t really need to look for it. There is so many things I feel fascinated by and kinda surrounded by. Meant in a good way. Apart from enjoying a good horror movie or reading a thrilling book by Stephen King I love visiting places with sinister history. And as the new album cover suggests – Whitechapel is the place I chose to paint (so to speak).
Place with vibes as a source of inspiration
When I lived in London I used to visit Whitechapel and I learnt quite a lot about that particular place and I am not only talking about the notoriously known Jack the Ripper. I really enjoyed my evening walks around the old Spitalfields Market, Christ church and Brick Lane and I always got a lot of vibe from that place. When I first started writing my motives for Whitechapel Impressions I kept imagining walking through old Victorian streets of Whitechapel and that kinda helped me to put the music out of my head. It also helped me with instrumentation. For sinister and haunting music I like going with nice vintage sounding piano, celeste, glockenspiel and off course my beloved recorders.
Music making
It’s always such an exciting moment when you realise a new idea has just been born in your mind whether it’s a rhythmic pattern, a short melody, a single verse or a whole tune. In those moments I usually run into my home recording studio, turn on the computer, open up Studio One, set up the microphone and press record. When travelling I am always keeping an old school paper notepad and a pencil just in case I get inspired. It’s funny how new ideas come all out of blue. Totally unannounced. I often wonder whether other artists do it too.
Experimenting with sounds
Pretty much every time I write a new piece of music I try to add something special, for example hand made percussions or a recording of a jaw harp or a sound of a wine glass filled with water. There is so much music out there that in order to be able to stand out even just a little we as artists have to be super creative and always search for new sounds. But really is so much fun!!
